The boats stem from the years spent in the British Merchant Navy as a seamen in what I call the "the Indian summer" of shipping before container boats came.

When I left the sea I began painting but about 10 years ago I began making ships from tin found in skips.

This served the sculpture/painting problem and I think nostalgia as well.

Invented colours and cutting of shapes give me more freedom and ships names give meaning as some of these ships I sailed on in those years.
