Mark Collinson

Mark is a sculptor of Oamaru stone, and a painter in oils.

The beautifully bold forms throughout the Southern Alps provide endless design opportunities for both flowing stone works, and richly textured paint strokes.

Often with rivers & coast in mind, carvings tend to be natural flowing forms that are intended to capture and reflect light through and around them.

All of the work, from cutting up a 2 tonne quarry block, to the final finishing is done by hand.

In painting landscapes, the aim is always to create an abstract design structure with tone, and to build mood and vitality with colour, sometimes subtle - often bold.

Mark lives on the coast near Oamaru, New Zealand with his family, and when not painting enjoys reading, barbequing, fishing and puttering in the garden.
