Robyn Douglas

As a youngster I had what some considered to be an early aptitude for art, and in my early teens in Dunedin I had lessons with H.V.Millar in drawing, lino-cutting and watercolour painting. I continued painting for many years, mainly flowers, still life and landscapes. After marriage we moved to Hamilton and later I painted in oils, tackled portraits, and started exploring the exciting world of contemporary art. Despite much confusion at first this soon became an addictive challenge. I also experimented with collage, mixed media and acrylics.

Later I began sculpting first with Oamaru stone and then with Hinuera stone and marble. For four years I helped to run the inForm Marble Sculpture Symposium during the Summer Festival in Hamilton.

I now fuse and slump glass in Waianakarua, North Otago, where my husband and I moved after retirement. I am making colourful contemporary plates and vases and experimenting with glass powder. It is an interesting and challenging journey.
