Scott Drummond

My interest in art as an adult began in 1992. I was adopted at birth and that year I met my birth family and discovered that my father, Peter Lambert was a professional artist living in Okato, Taranaki.

After our second meeting he gave me a set of pencils and this began my renewed interest in art.

Initially I worked with watercolour. I enjoyed the directness and effects of light the medium offered as well as the convenience of the medium with family and travel. I held two successful solo exhibitions and became an Artist member of the Otago Art Society during this time.

I now work almost exclusively with oils and mostly en plein air landscapes. I enjoy the effects of changing value, shape and temperature and try and record a realistic image with direct, economical brushwork while maintaining a pleasing looseness and abstraction. I find the practice of painting outdoors from direct observation of the subject a great counterpoint to the precision and finesse required of me as a veterinarian.

I have exhibited frequently at the Otago Art Society and my work has been accepted in recent years into the Cleveland National Art Awards, The Hope and Sons Art Awards, and the Edinburgh Realty Art Awards. I have received recognition in various Otago Art Society exhibitions, both with placings and special mentions.

I love the work of New Zealand artists Douglas Badcock and John Crump; and the art of overseas artists Jim McVicker and Arthur Streeton.
