Room to View invites you to look down into imagined interiors where the ordinary gives way to the unexpected. Hand-cut birch plywood walls frame each work, creating intimate rooms viewed from directly above. The viewer becomes the silent observer, witnessing stories that unfold around the table.
Within these spaces, I bring unlikely gatherings of animals and people together to discuss issues that affect their shared futures. Takahē meet with conservation workers, African wildlife consider the pressures of habitat loss and greyhounds confront an uncertain life beyond the track. Alongside these imagined encounters, other rooms turn their attention to the quieter drama of domestic life, finding humour and familiarity in the everyday moments that can occur.
By elevating the viewpoint, you are asked to reconsider your own perspective. Looking down creates both distance and intimacy, encouraging you to observe, question and imagine the relationships between people, animals and the environments we share. My intention is for each room to become a stage where curiosity and conversation can commence.
