Mark Collinson: Life & Light

4-25 March 2022

I'm seeking a sensation of ‘aliveness’, an atmosphere made up of vibrant light and colour.

Painting can be a struggle for me, not so much the ‘what’ of painting, but the ‘how’ of painting.

What am I painting? After years of going around in circles I've realised that what I'm seeking is a sensation of ‘aliveness’, an atmosphere made up of vibrant light and colour.

How am I painting? How do I paint life and light into something? It’s a very elusive magic that happens sometimes if I'm lucky, and the most tantalizing and frustrating of pursuits. It seems that I only just get a feel for it, then it slips away again.

My hope is that these works hold a little spark of liveliness.
